GREAT RESOURCES:

RomanticAsheville.com has a comprehensive list of local events and places

Beautiful views:

The best of the mountains in one place! Chimney Rock Park is a scenic attraction located 25 minutes from where you are staying.with spectacular 75-mile views, numerous hiking trails, a 404-foot waterfall, Nature Center, picnicking and more.

Also be sure and check out DuPont State Forest Waterfalls.

Music/Film:

Nearby is Brevard and there is rock and roll at The Orange Peel in downtown Asheville. Did you know that Asheville has its own symphony? You never know whats happening at the U.S. Cellular Center - Asheville (formerly known as the Asheville Civic Center). And you should check out the dance scene here. Visit Asheville's home for art and independent film, www.fineartstheatre.com.

Curated and presented by Grammy Award-winning vocalist-songwriter and revered guitarist Warren Haynes, the Christmas Jam is a one-of-a-kind music marathon. Since its inception 27 years ago, the concert has provided an opportunity for the performing artists, audience and the local community to give back during the holiday season.

Festivals:

Throughout the year there are many festivals in the area.

One of the best is LEAF, which happens twice a year, once in October and once in May.

The Asheville Fringe Festival is a showcase of unique performance art from all over the country. It happens every January and is scheduled to take place in a variety of venues.

Goombay Festival was created to celebrate the richness and diversity of the African Diaspora and Asheville’s African American community. The festival attracts over 10,000 people throughout the weekend, and garners national media coverage. Goombay Festival lives up to its West African name meaning of “rhythm or drum” with eclectic sounds, vibrant, multicolored sights and the tantalizing aroma of exotic foods reflecting a multiplicity of cultures and traditions.

LAAFF - A once-yearly festival that endeavors to offer and promote an immersive arts and alternative economic experience. Participants engage and grow in a setting with mixed media and wide range art installations and performances; artisan crafted goods, foods, and beverages; and interactive education on concepts that benefit local and global health, justice, freedom, peace, and environmental stewardship.

Montford Music & Arts Festival - Located on the main street of the Historic Montford neighborhood, the festival has a new look with entertainment stages, artist and vendor booths, and central food court all now on one street, Montford Avenue. While visiting the neighborhood, you will walk the tree lined street, where trolley’s used to travel, marvel at unique architecture, from turn of the century “Victorian” to Arts and Craft designs and observe the diversity mix of its proud neighbors, who yearly volunteer to be your hosts for the festival.

Outdoor Activities :

Wake up and bird watch right from the cabin. Sharon Spring has a beautiful wooded trail, and your host can give you directions to spectacular hikes just ten minutes away from the cabin - we have great hiking right here in Fairview!

This is the place to take a gentle walk and see great flowers and trees, all nicely labled: the NC Arboretum. Hiking in Graveyard Fields is always a welcome afternoon, as well as the ever-popular Sliding Rock.

To take a raft trip check out the offerings at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. Taking a walk at the Biltmore Estate is one of the reasons people flock to this area. Also only a short drive from the cabin is Lake Lure - the perfect little town. If you're looking for adventure sports in Lake Lure, the Lake Lure NC Adventure Company is great. One of the best area maps for hiking is here.

Food / Drink:

In Fairview near the cabin, visit The Local Joint at 1185 Charlotte Highway in Fairview. On the way to Asheville, the Piazza. You can find whatever you like to eat Downtown! Doc Chey's Noodle House is my favorite. Be sure to check ou the Asheville Brews Cruise.

Organic produce is available at our locally owned Trout Lily Market (on Rte. 74A).

Arts/Crafts:

There are so many places. Explore the RiverArts District in Asheville and see 150 artist studios and galleries. Then peek at the Southern Highland Guild. Perfectly wonderful, handmade items.

Weaverville Art Safari - Self Guided Studio Tour featuring local artists.

Recommended in Fairview

Sharon Spring Cabin is situated in one of the most perfect locations for great things to do while you're here in Asheville. Toward town, there is a plethora of Asheville related things to do, including the Blue Ridge Parkway, The WNC Nature Center, the eclectic downtown music scene and so much more.

Hickory Nut Gap Farm

In Fairview, the home of Sharon Spring Cabin, you will be hard-pressed to find such local splendor anywhere else in the region. The Hickory Nut Gap Farm, only a few minutes up the road, is the local organic farm; offering apples (take a tour in the fall!), organic meats and so many fun farm animals.

Flying Cloud Farms

Another local gem, the Flying Cloud Farm in Fairview is dedicated to producing local vegetables and other sustainable goods for market and local produce offerings. A true family owned and run business, Flying Cloud is proud to offer only the best from Fairview.

Cane Creek Asparagus & Company CSA: Our Local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). www.CaneCreekCSA.com

Stay at Sharon Spring Cabin and volunteer at The Lord's Acre, our beautiful community garden to feed the hungry.

Horseback riding can also be a great adventure, a local, Annie Ager, offers her services to those interested during certain portions of the year (mostly in the summer and fall) - inquire when making reservations. Although not unique to just Fairview, these self-sustaining ecologically friendly and organic farms are an indispensible resource and rich cultural tool that so many locals rely on year-round for their needs.

The Local Joint is a wonderful locally-owned restaurant that is located right around the corner from Sharon Spring at 1185 Charlotte Highway.
